1. RAID5, hot-swap mass storage

  • RAID 5 uses a block-encoding scheme across multiple physical drives and has parity, and parity information is distributed among the physical disks of the array, when one hard drive fails, you just simply put a new one to replace it, with RAID 5 mechanism, all the data stored in that hard drive can be automatically recovered, and with hot-swap, you don’t need to shut down the DVR to replace the failed hard drive 

2. Built-in DVD burner

  • The life time for tape is about 3~5 years, because the magnetic media will decay itself, but the life time for DVD is 100 years and more, with the DVD burner and the video data backup program, we can easily store precious video data almost time indefinite.

3. Intel Quad Server Processor

  • Quad processor is designed for server application, it’s far superior then regular server Dual processor, here it’s specifically useful when all the Multi tasks, local compression and record, live display and provide MPEG4,H264 video stream over network are working simultaneously, any regular P4 DVR in that situation, the CPU usage is 100%, but with this Quad DVR, the CPU usage is only less than 60%.

  • The DVR uses powerful PCI video capture chips, video data can be directly put into host memory for compression/record and display buffer for live display at monitor simultaneously, the built-in PCI bus master and pixel data FIFO can fully use PCI33/133M to transmit continuous video data stream, under 320 by 240 resolution and 16 bit color depth, the video data bit rate inside is 133x1024x1024/320x240x16=113.5 frames per second.

8. Enhanced audio processing

  • The 878A also provides one channel audio capturing, so the DVR has 4 channel audio recording capacity.

  • The DVR uses 82540 to provide optional dual gigabit LAN port, that makes a wide flexibility to the network application, we can use one port connect to Internet, and the other one connect to intranet, or we can cascade 2 ports to provide double communication capacity.

  • Smart-Record-Technology means the DVR can automatically assign more frames to the heavy motion channel; you can setup the maximum limit up to 30 if that channel is very important.
